Tea caddy for holding koicha, or thick matcha tea. This piece is an omeibutsu formerly owned by Ashikaga Yoshimasa, eighth shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate. It was given to Naomasa, second head of Ii family by Tokugawa Ieyasu in recognition of meritorious service at the 1615 Osaka campaigns.
