Vessel for holding water for cleansing tea bowls, etc. The darkening evident throughout the piece was caused by the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. The painter Meiho, who decorated the piece, was invited to work in Hikone during the time of Naosuke, thirteenth head of Ii family, and applied his talent to the decoration of many luxurious pieces.
