Kinrande Waste-Water Jar

Kinrande Waste-Water Jar
Koto ware, porcelain, with design of kingfisher and willow in gold painting
By Meiho
Edo period, 19th century
Gift of Ii Family

Vessel for holding waste water. Similarity of design to a fresh water jar suggests that the two were a pair, which most probably formed part of a kaigu set comprising lid rest, ladle stand and other tea ceremony utensils.
