This palanquin was part of the trousseau of Yachiyo (1846 – 1927), daughter of Naosuke, 13th head of Ii family, made on the occasion of the former’s marriage in 1858 to Matsudaira Yoritoshi, heir to the Takamatsu domain. It was produced in Kyoto according to arrangements made by Nagano Yoshikoto, a trusted vassal of Naosuke.
