The wakizashi is a small sword worn on the waist with the blade edge facing up. A wakizashi was usually carried in addition to a tachi sword or katana sword. This example is characterized by the gently curving hamon, which strikes a beautiful contrast with the black ground. Swords made by Kotetsu were renowned for their sharp blades.
