Flute Muromachi period,16th century Gift of Ii Family |
The kagurabue is a side-blown bamboo flute believed to be native to Japan. It is primarily used to perform a type of gagaku music referred to as kagurauta. This example is unusual in that it employs mottled bamboo, and is wound with birch bark strips that are thinner and wider than was conventional.
