Seven-word-line poem “Seizan ikkaku” |
Calligraphy by Kusakabe Meikaku (1838-1922) Hanging scroll, ink on silk dated Taisho 6 (1917) Gift of Mr.Kusakabe Akira |
The work was executed by Kusakabe Meikaku (1838 – 1922), a native of Hikone and one of Japan’s leading modern-era calligraphers. The work was exhibited at a grand event celebrating his 80th birthday. The confident rei-sho(clerical script) shows no sign of aging, and is considered a leading example of Kusakabe’s later work.
