The family of Kimata Seizaemon, who served as head councilor (hittō-garō) of the Hikone domain, preserved a letter in Tokugawa Ieyasu’s own hand sent to Ii Naomasa. This letter orders Naomasa to dispatch Kimata Morikatsu (Seizaemon) or another general to lead a force to subdue the Kai-Shinano region (present-day Yamanashi and Nagano Prefectures). The letter was sent directly to Naomasa by express runner in 1583.
