Letter by Tokugawa Hidetada addressed to Ii Naotsugu shortly after construction of Hikone Castle commenced. The shogun, who had sent a messenger to check on the progress of the castle, expresses his appreciation for the work carried out during scorching weather. The letter indicates that construction of Hikone Castle was a matter of significant interest to Tokugawa shogunate.
